Here in The Chill Zone, we highlight the talents, dedication, and diverse perspectives of the individuals who form the heartbeat of Thermo-Kool. In this month's edition, we sat down with our Chain Account Supervisor, Morgan Morris. Working with and managing chain accounts, Morgan has a unique eye on what we do every day. Let's find out more about her 16 years of experience here, her thoughts on the industry, and a little about her favorite Thermo-Kool employee.
How did you land in the foodservice industry?
By chance. I originally started at the company as a receptionist, and from there was fortunate enough to be offered the position of purchasing assistant. From there I moved to customer service, and then to sales, where I’m currently the Chain Accounts Supervisor. Through it all, my company knowledge, both technically and culturally, has grown exponentially and has given me the tools to excel in my current position. I have loved the journey so far, and I can’t wait to see what other growth and influence I can offer to our company.
If you could describe Thermo-Kool in one word, what would it be?
Elite - Thermo-Kool is the best in the industry for our products, customer service, and, most of all, our employees. The camaraderie we all share is what allows us to be who we are.
In your opinion, what's the best use for a blast chiller?
There are so many great uses for a blast chiller. Which is why it’s such a shame that they are the most underrated equipment in the commercial kitchen. They decrease food waste, save on labor, and are kinder to the environment than most of our competitors. Owning a blast chiller is a win-win.
Do you have a favorite restaurant?
BR Prime Steakhouse in Biloxi, Mississippi. It’s a great restaurant located inside the Beau Rivage casino. The atmosphere and the food are well worth the hour and a half trip to get there. It’s my absolute favorite, and we have celebrated so many special occasions there.
What's your go-to order?
Lobster bisque, filet mignon, bananas foster and a French martini. You have to trust me, always order tableside, bananas foster.
Do you cook at home? If so, what's your favorite tool or appliance?
Yes, I cook a lot at home. We enjoy cooking/grilling as a family and recently my daughter has started wanting to “help” in the kitchen. I love to use my family's recipes that have been passed down. I love to feed family and friends, especially my co-workers.
Are you binge-watching any TV shows right now?
My kids keep me busy, but when I have time, I enjoy watching The Food Network and the FBI series. But we’re such a sporty family, so there is always some sort of sporting event playing on the television at our house.
What's the coolest place on Earth you've ever been?
Crested Butte, Colorado. It holds a great memory for me; the first time I ever got to snow ski. I was 16 or 17 at the time, and remember it being a lot of fun. Not sure I would brave such an adventure now, but having the memory is just as good.
What's your favorite cold weather sport?
Football, but my all-time favorite sport is baseball.
Is there anything on your bucket list?
To visit New York City, Las Vegas, the Florida Keys, and Los Angeles. To put it simply, I want to travel and see the world in a way you can’t experience through the lens of a camera. Not only that, but I want all my children to discover these sights as well. My greatest wish is to have the privilege of watching them grow and explore all the joys life can offer. I don’t think there’s anything more fulfilling than that.
Anything else we should know about you that you'd like to share?
I've been married to my husband, Heath, for 11 years. Heath is also employed with Thermo-Kool as the purchasing supervisor. He's been with the company for 28 years. We have four children, Brock, Dylan, Baylor, and Finley, and a wonderful daughter-in-law, Mary Kate, and granddaughter, Mallie. We are also preparing to welcome a new grandson into the world this September, and we are all very excited about that. I love spending time with my family, whether it be at the baseball fields, playing with my daughter, gathering for a meal, or enjoying our favorite vacation spot on the beach.
