Leading with Compassion: Thermo-Kool to Speak at 2025 Rx and Illicit Drug Summit

At Thermo-Kool, creating a culture where people can grow, heal, and thrive is more than just a mission—it’s a commitment. That’s why we’re honored to share that our Human Resources Director, Kimberly McRoy, will be a featured speaker at the 2025 Rx and Illicit Drug Summit in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Summit, held April 21–24, is the largest national event addressing the opioid crisis, bringing together leaders from public health, policy, business, and recovery communities. Kimberly will take the stage on Thursday, April 24 from 8:30–9:30 a.m., joining a distinguished panel that includes Ben Garthwaite, CEO of Fors Marsh, and Dana Piscapo, Director, Global Industries GTM Design and Analytics of Oracle. Together, they’ll discuss how recovery-friendly workplace policies are transforming organizational cultures and supporting employees in powerful, life-changing ways.

A Voice of Experience and Advocacy

As the Human Resources Director at Thermo-Kool, Kimberly manages the full employee life cycle, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and benefits administration. With over 30 years of experience across construction, sales, and management, she brings a unique strength in relationship-building and a deep-rooted passion for service—both in her community and within the workplace.

But what makes Kimberly’s leadership especially impactful is her personal journey. Having experienced substance misuse firsthand and celebrating over 30 years of sobriety, she understands the challenges many face on the road to recovery. That personal insight fuels her professional mission: to create a workplace where others in recovery feel safe, supported, and empowered.

“It’s not just about policy—it’s about people,” Kimberly said. “Everyone deserves the opportunity to rebuild their lives in an environment that believes in them.”

Building a Recovery-Friendly Workplace

In her role at Thermo-Kool, Kimberly pioneered the company’s first Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW) program—a vital initiative that provides employment opportunities and support to individuals in recovery. The program is designed to foster health, wellness, and long-term success for employees striving to live self-directed lives and reach their full potential.

She continues to advocate for recovery-centered policies, pushing to further humanize the “Human” in Human Resources. Her work is reshaping not only Thermo-Kool’s internal culture, but also serving as a model for businesses across the nation.

Joining Kimberly at the Summit will be Thermo-Kool President and CEO, Rand McLaughlin, underscoring the company’s unwavering commitment to supporting employee well-being at every level of leadership.

“This is more than a panel—it's an opportunity to help reshape how we think about workplace culture,” said McRoy. “When people are supported in their recovery journey, everyone wins. We’ve seen the positive impact firsthand at Thermo-Kool.”

Looking Ahead

With more than 3,000 attendees expected at this year’s Rx Summit, Kimberly’s message of hope and inclusion will reach an audience of change-makers from around the country. Notably, her panel will follow a Plenary session featuring Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., adding national significance to the platform and spotlight on workplace recovery initiatives.

We couldn’t be prouder to support Kimberly as she takes the stage to share her voice, her experience, and her heart.
